Lynda Bird Johnson Robb is a Chairwoman, advocate for literacy, and the eldest daughter of President Lyndon Johnson. Robb chaired the Reading is Fundamental organization from 1996-2001 as Chairman of the Board. Today, she is Chairman Emerita of the organization due to her continued love and advocacy for children’s literacy. Her name is a combination of her parent’s names, Lyndon and Lady Bird, and she has gone on to continue her parent’s legacy as statesmen representing her mother at national events and funerals.
Growing up in the White House led to a public fascination with Robb and who she associated with, often garnering paparazzi at behest of the public interest. Robb held her wedding in the White House, creating a national event that was as public as her daily life. Throughout her career advocating for women, Robb also chaired President Jimmy Carter’s Advisory Committee for Women during the 1980s that promoted women’s equality in American policy and culture. Today, Robb serves on the boards of the Lyndon Baines Johnson Foundation and her mother’s Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.
