This week's speaker is by our Montgomery Fellow Dr. Patty Gerstenblith Ph.D., J.D., D.H.L. Dr. Gerstenblith is a Distinguished Research Professor of Law at DePaul University. Her talk is titled, "Everything You Wanted to Know about International Law and Trafficking of Archaeological Materials (But might have been afraid to ask)."

This talk will discuss the international legal framework, including the 1970 UNESCO Convention, import/export restrictions, and the concept of State ownership as applied to archaeological artifacts. In doing so, the presentation will explain the advantages and shortcomings of this framework in the effort to protect archaeological heritage.
